Our Passion for Music and Community
Who We Are
Celebrating Harmony and Community Spirit Since 1995
The York Region Community Choir has enriched the lives of its members and the community for more than three decades. We are an inclusive, non-auditioning, mixed adult choir.
Choir members- choristers- enjoy a healthy activity every week. Singing together has been shown to have many health benefits. Choristers build and rebuild musical skills and they also build community through the weekly connection with each other. Singing together, we enjoy the music and learn the songs, and safely work through big themes, like love and peace among kindred spirits. Our inclusive community is a supportive environment where every voice is heard and appreciated.
By providing musical performances at local events and by occasionally collaborating with other local musical groups, the YRCC brings attention to choral music and group singing in the greater community.
Our many annual performances at seniors residences and care homes foster intergenerational connections and much joy, always with a selection of songs chosen for relevance to the senior audience members to sing and dance along with.
The YRCC singing season runs from September to June. We meet on Tuesdays from 7:30-9:30 in the Seminar Room in the York Region Administrative Centre on Yonge Street in Newmarket. (For many years we met on Monday evenings.)
Every year, the YRCC puts on two public performances, one in the first weekend in May and the other in the first weekend of December.
Our Journey
From Humble Beginnings to Community Enrichment
The choir began with a shared love for music and community engagement. Over the years, it has grown into a vibrant ensemble that not only performs at major events but also enriches the lives of seniors through heartfelt musical outreach at retirement homes and care facilities.
Since 1995, the choir has evolved from a small group into a treasured community institution, performing regularly for audiences across York Region.
